How to get the best from your scented candle
Share
We want you to get the very best out of your candles, so we've compiled our top tips to give you a perfect burn.
Trim the Wick
Before lighting always trim the wick to about 6mm and remove any wick debris. This encourages an even burn whilst helping to eliminate dripping, smoking and excessive “mushrooming”. We recommend the use of a “Wick Trimmer with Wick Measure” for best results.
Burn time
Always burn a pillar candle for 1 hour per 2.5cm of its diameter. This allows a wax pool to develop, releases the maximum fragrance and prevents craters and wastage. Make sure that the candle is liquidised to the edge, especially for the all important, 'first burn'. This will stop the candle burning down into a well.
Avoid Air Currents and Draughts
Candles burn best in still air but if you can’t avoid draughts, turn the candle periodically to avoid uneven burning and possible candle collapse. A candle in a draught may also start to smoke.
Polishing Candles
Rub gently with a nylon stocking (smooth finish candles only).
Candle Storage
Keep candles in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight, preferably in their original packaging or tissue paper.
Putting candles out
If possible use a candle snuffer to prevent wicks from drifting off-centre and to avoid wax splash. This will help to maximize the candle’s burn time.
